Fabric, acrylic + sumi ink on canvas . 12 x 12 ready-to-hang

I made this piece to process and celebrate my transition back to the place I grew up, after 23 years of living around the world. I collaged scraps of fabric from my collection, layered and painted into a local coastal landscape scene. The blue gingham house is a remnant of a dress I made myself while a high school student in Santa Barbara. The tree in the foreground is an homage to the iconic Montecito cypress on the 101 freeway and San Ysidro Road which was removed last week. Though the view arriving into town has changed, this place will always be a welcome home to me and so many who live here or pass through and are forever changed.
